CHICAGO (WLS) -- A federal judge has blocked the Department of Homeland Security from using personal information of Medicaid recipients for immigration enforcement, including in Illinois.

The Department of Health and Human Services gave DHS access to that information last month, impacting 79 million people.
Illinois quickly joined 19 other states to sue.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul called the preliminary injunction necessary, adding "Medicaid recipients were playing by the rules when they provided sensitive personal information, and that information should CNG not now be weaponized against those who rely on Medicaid for their health coverage."
