LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Residents of the Summer Orchard subdivision say they are being charged for far more sewer service than they actually use, and they want the billing system changed.

“So they decided to just bill everyone for a flat rate of 10,000 gallons of water regardless of usage and that very quickly became untenable when the bill started to come in and we realized we were paying almost $100 every month for water that we don't even use,” said Dr. Jerahn Hyman, a resident of the neighborhood.

Hyman says the issue started when new neighbors discovered that water and sewer services come from different providers. The flat rate sewer bill is based on 10,000 gallons each month, even for households using much less.
