PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A child and his mother were hospitalized after they were pulled from a body of water in Plainfield Township Wednesday evening, the fire department said.

Firefighters with the Plainfield Township Fire Department were called to Versluis Park around 7:39 p.m. after a boy swam beyond the buoys marking a swimming area and went under the water. His mother, who jumped in to save him, also went under, the fire department said.

Bystanders pulled them both from the lake and the boy was not responsive. But by the time firefighters arrived just three minutes later, he was awake.

Both the boy and his mother were treated on scene and then taken to the hospital.

“They are expected to make full recoveries,” the fire department wrote in a social media post.
