ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) — Students are gearing up for the first day of school in Rockford, but ongoing construction is adding to the back-to-school stress.

Parents and students from Spring Creek Elementary attended an open house to meet teachers Wednesday. However, many expressed concerns about the construction on Spring Creek Road and its potential impact on their morning routines.

Edwin Carlson, a parent, shared his worries. "It's very difficult when there is only one lane open on Spring Creek to get in and out of the school," Carlson said. "My daughter is in 4th grade, I appreciate the school and board of education doing improvements to the entrance and parking lot, but I feel like the city let them down by not getting the four lanes open on Spring Creek."
