A Guernsey politician has sold the site of a former seafront restaurant for £1 after a major fire.

Deputy Yvonne Burford says she made the decision following "the total destruction" of St Peter Port's Octopus Restaurant, which was demolished after the blaze last year .

She has passed on the land to the current tenants, Delphine Pesrin-Auder and Mickael Pesrin.

In a post on social media, Deputy Burford explains: "After the total destruction of the restaurant last year, various insurance negotiations, lease limitations and obligations and costings have played a significant role in determining a way forward.

"This has ultimately resulted in the transfer of the site to the tenants at no cost.
