WEST SACRAMENTO -- Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe almost narrowed his home run gap against teammate Junior Caminero during Wednesday’s 8-2 win over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park.

Key word: almost.

With two outs in the ninth inning and Tampa Bay already up four runs, Caminero crushed a two-run dinger to left to maintain a double-digit advantage over his fellow infielder: 34 homers this season to Lowe’s 24. Of course, Caminero had nothing on Lowe in terms of distance -- Caminero’s 346-foot dinger to left field paled in comparison to Lowe’s 458-foot blast to center in the second inning.

It was the second time in the Rays’ three-game series against the Athletics that both players homered -- the two went back to back off the batter’s eye in center field in Monday’s win.
