ISLETON, Calif. —

Isleton's city council voted to remove Mayor Iva Walton during a heated meeting Tuesday night, following a grand jury investigation that found she violated the city council's code of conduct.

The meeting, which lasted four and a half hours, was marked by intense exchanges among council members, staff, and the public.

The grand jury found Walton used public land to maintain outdoor seating for her bar, the Mei Wah Beer Room, which was added during the pandemic but is no longer permitted.

“Walton’s use of public land for her personal gain violates the following sections of the Isleton Code of Conduct for City Council members,” the report reads .
