CALEXICO — The Calexico Police Officers Association announced the arrest of a man accused of committing a string of shoplifting incidents that netted nearly $22,000 in stolen goods.

The suspect, identified as Junior Alejandro Gil, is believed to be responsible for dozens of thefts across the area, including approximately $9,000 worth of merchandise from the Calexico Walmart alone.

In the most recent incident, which occurred last week, police say Gil was caught on surveillance footage stealing eight gaming computers along with other items before fleeing through an emergency exit, the CPOA said.

Authorities located and detained Gil at the port of entry before booking him into the county jail on charges of grand theft.
