EL CENTRO — More than 2,000 people in some form attended last week’s Imperial County job fair that was partly spurred by the closing of the Spreckels sugar plant.
Workforce and Economic Development Director Priscilla Lopez said the job fair addressed other industries, so everyone looking for employment was invited.
“It was such a successful event,” Lopez said.
She told the Imperial County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday that 33 businesses were in hand at the Imperial Valley Mall to meet with job applicants, and 1,997 people attended the job fair in person. With clicks added, it was more than 2,000.
“At the end of the day, it was a good, positive event,” Lopez said.
Because of its success, the Workforce and Economic Development is planning to do two job fairs a year.
