Former NBA guard Sebastian Telfair is asking President Donald Trump for a pardon after reporting to federal prison Tuesday to serve six months for violating parole in a health care fraud case.
Telfair, 40, reported to Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution on Tuesday to serve a six-month prison term after violating a community service clause of his parole related to a health care fraud case. Telfair, who said the violation was “paperwork” related, was one of 18 NBA players convicted in the scheme that saw fake claims submitted to the NBA’s health and benefit plan.
The day before he reported to prison, Telfair told TMZ that he did not want to be away from his 3-year-old child, leading to Telfair imploring Trump to get involved to get him out of prison.
