Police forces have been instructed to disclose suspects' ethnicity and nationality to the public, following accusations of concealing offences committed by asylum seekers. The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing issued this interim guidance in response to increasing pressure on police regarding the information they release to the public.
According to the new guidance, forces should consider revealing additional details about suspects charged in particularly high-profile and sensitive investigations. However, the NPCC stated that the decision to release such information will ultimately remain with the individual forces.
