Henrico officials reported concerns about new vape shops having gotten around regulations put in place last summer to limit where they can open.

County law was updated to prohibit these stores from opening within 1,000 feet of a school and 2,000 feet from a public park, or another vape shop.

The crackdown came as residents complained that a large number of vape shops had started opening up within a short period of time, saying that they were opening across the street from schools and had begun overtaking local strip malls.

A review from the department of planning said that vape stores are more likely to sell products to underage buyers than a typical gas station, convenience or grocery store.
