BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — State highway work zones across the commonwealth are installing speed cameras to help protect crews working on the road.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hopes the new technology will mean fewer car crashes and safer roads.

In 2024, Kentucky recorded more than 1,223 work zone crashes, resulting in seven deaths and 298 injuries, according to KYTC . Most of those killed were motorists or passengers.

However, Kentuckians have mixed feelings about the speed cameras.

“It is what it is. Not really much I can do about it,” said Autumn Rompilla.

Billy Martin is not happy with the cameras, but hopes they can still do some good for the community.

“I don’t like the cameras; I do like police. I have nothing against them,” said Martin.
