Newcastle United are set to kick off the new Premier League season with makeshift striker Anthony Gordon leading the line with deals to sign a new forward still stalled.

Gordon should shake off a minor fitness worry from last weekend to reprise the centre-forward role he filled against Atletico Madrid, but that doesn’t disguise a major issue for Newcastle, who have been unable to even replace Callum Wilson in the summer transfer window.
