A lemur in Scotland that was the world's oldest living in captivity has sadly died. The animal passed away at the incredible age of 39.
Stumpy the ring-tailed lemur died peacefully at Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder on Sunday, August 10. He was described by keepers as a "true ambassador for his species".
According to the Guinness World Records , Stumpy was the oldest living ring-tailed lemur in captivity as of June of this year. His age of 39 was double that of the average age of his species.
Stumpy was born in Surrey in 1986. He then arrived at Five Sisters Zoo when it first opened in 2005, along with his six sons.
Throughout his long life, the lemur became the patriarch of a sizeable family . He had 11 offspring, 25 grandchildren, six great-grandchildr
