New Maryland athletic director Jim Smith will not get to make any key coaching hires in the early stages of his tenure. Instead, he’s backing the ones he inherited.
In an interview with The Baltimore Sun on Tuesday, Smith voiced faith in Michael Locksley’ ability to rebound from last season’s 4-8 record and said that Maryland football will receive a “significant amount” of the school’s revenue sharing budget that “reflects where the program’s at.”
Locksley, entering his seventh season with Maryland, has never recorded a winning conference record and is 1-13 combined against Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. And after consecutive eight-win campaigns, the Terps went 1-8 in the Big Ten in 2024. But Locksley is responsible for reeling in one of his best recruiting classes in this cycle,
