CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A South Carolina state trooper who had been fighting for his life since he was hit by a box truck over the weekend has died.

Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks was conducting a traffic stop in the early hours of the morning Sunday on I-26 in Orangeburg County when he was struck by a box truck.

Ricks was taken to a hospital in North Charleston for treatment and had spent the following days in critical condition.

Late Wednesday and early Thursday , reports of Ricks’ death began to circulate. Several law enforcement agencies and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette have all expressed condolences.
