With his approval numbers already underwater, the success of Donald Trump’s second term could hinge on how well he deals with Russian President Vladimir Putin at their upcoming summit in Alaska on Friday.

Should the president not forcefully get Russia to pull back from occupied portions of Ukraine and instead concede territory, it could haunt his presidency.

As “MSNBC “Morning Joe “ co-host Joe Scarborough explained on Thursday morning, Trump could face the same type of criticism former President Joe Biden faced after the awkward Afghanistan withdrawal.

“He withdrew from Afghanistan, that was on TV sets for about a week or so,” the MSNBC host recalled. “It was very ugly images coming out of Afghanistan, and his approval rating dropped below 50% for the first time, and it never went above it again.”

“I think we have the same case here with Afghanistan," he continued. “If Vladimir Putin is given what Vladimir Putin wants, we're going to see a lot of ugly images on our television sets over the next six months to a year, and that is going to be a nightmare for Donald Trump and Donald Trump's legacy on the foreign policy stage.”

“On the other side of it, if he is the one president that's able to negotiate a tough deal with Putin, that's acceptable to Europe, then yeah, that could be a legacy builder,” he added.

Scarborough later had a warning for Putin by suggesting that, after the war ends, Americans will flood Ukraine to help it rebuild.
”You're going to see American building contractors and subcontractors over there,” he predicted. “And, Vlad, those are Americans, we're rebuilding it, it may not be called NATO, but if a hair is moved on one of those Americans' head the wrong way, you're going to have hell to pay for it.”
