EAST LANSING — In just two weeks, the Michigan State football team will take the field for a much anticipated second year under Jonathan Smith.

Fans will get their first look at talent the Spartans added from the transfer portal and recruiting trail. They’ll get to see the development of established stars like quarterback Aidan Chiles and wide receiver Nick Marsh. And, they’ll probably be surprised by a few things along the way.

Defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa was one of many coaches who played back the tape last season, and he felt the Spartans were better than the 5-7 team they finished as. Asked about the pass rush, he even went as far as to say the group “wanted to be able to challenge for a championship around here.” The bar was set high right out of the gate.
