VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Suffolk woman is facing charges after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 eastbound in Virginia Beach on Thursday morning.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened east of Indian River Road when traffic suddenly slowed. Investigators say the driver of a Mack dump truck, Charkeema Q. Hicks, was unable to stop in time and swerved to the right, hitting four vehicles.
The truck then ran off the road, hit a guardrail, overturned, and spilled its load onto the roadway.
Hicks has been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control.
VDOT crews responded to the scene to clear debris. Several lanes were shut down, but all lanes have since reopened.
