MARBLEHEAD — Christine H. Gatchell wept as she recalled her 13-year-old daughter, Savanah who was killed in a violent car crash involving a teen driver.

“The house is empty without her,” Gatchell said, standing in the doorway of her home Wednesday. “Savanah completes the family.”

The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m . Tuesday in the 300 block of Atlantic Avenue, less than 2 miles from the Gatchells’ home. The driver, a 16-year-old boy who survived the crash, was allegedly impaired at the time, prosecutors said.

The boy was arraigned Wednesday in Lynn Juvenile Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and operating under the influence of liquor, as well as two civil motor vehicle infractions, Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tu
