A judge denied a request from Brian Walshe to dismiss an indictment charging him with killing and dismembering his wife, Ana Walshe , in their Cohasset home, writing that “evidence of motive was significant” in the case.

In a seven-page ruling, Judge Diane C. Freniere on Tuesday said lawyers for Brian Walshe had argued for dismissal on the grounds that “the grand jury heard insufficient evidence” to sustain an indictment.

Freniere disagreed. She said grand jurors heard 12 days of testimony from 23 witnesses about allegation s that Walshe had killed his 39-year-old wife in the predawn hours of Jan. 1, 2023, before dismembering her and dumping the remains in multiple locations.
