Michael Crawford has been honoured by Donald Trump for his contribution to American culture.
The US president named Crawford, 85, as a Kennedy Centre honouree on Wednesday in a ceremony at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC.
Crawford, whose career spans between stage, film and television, rose to national acclaim for his portrayal of Frank Spencer in the 1970s sitcom Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, with his catchphrase “Ooh, Betty!” becoming a cultural hallmark.
The actor’s performance as the titular character in the original production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera also earned him an Olivier and a Tony Award.
