RIVERSIDE — The odds of a golfer making an eagle are roughly 250-to-1, according to a website called GolfWRK.
Baron Nguyen, a Norco High School senior committed to UCLA, not only made one eagle in Wednesday afternoon’s SCGA Men’s Match Play Championship final at Victoria Club but two on consecutive par 5s to close out a 5&3 victory over Cal State San Bernardino graduate John Kim.
It was Nguyen’s debut in SCGA sanctioned competition. He earns an exemption into next year’s California Amateur Championship (if not otherwise qualified) along with a spot in the 2026 SCGA Amateur with the win.
