Yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms have been issued for parts of the UK as the fourth heatwave of the summer continues .

The weather warnings cover north-eastern Scotland and the eastern part of Northern Ireland.

In Scotland, in a separate the forecaster predicted that up to 70mm of rain could fall in two hours, while 50mm is set to fall in Northern Ireland.

Residents affected by both alerts – due to stay in place until 10pm on Thursday night – may experience power cuts and the possibility of deep floodwater, “causing a danger to life”, the Met Office said.

Flood alerts have also been issued for Scotland, where the Scottish Environment Protection Agency is warning of a risk of significant flooding from surface water and rivers.
