Profits are rising at historic levels for ranchers and farmers in Southeastern Kansas.
Emporia Livestock Sales, a major cattle auction house in Emporia, has set nationwide records for sale prices in the past several weeks. The high demand has been seen not just in Emporia, but across the industry as a whole.
“It's amazing to see the smiles on people's faces,” Brody Peak, Owner of Emporia Livestock Sales, said. “Nobody can believe it, it's unlike anything anybody's remotely ever seen.”
In an early August auction, Emporia Livestock Sales set nationwide records in multiple weight class categories. The auction barn scored its three highest sales in the 10-weight division category - 28 head at 1,009 pounds for $323, 58 head at 1,006 pounds for $320.50, and 35 head at 1,029 pounds for $318.00
