Air Canada said it will start cancelling flights on Thursday ahead of a possible strike by its flight attendants, which the airline said will allow for an orderly shutdown of Canada's largest airline.
The airline said Wednesday the first flights will be cancelled Thursday, with more on Friday and a complete cessation of flying by Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge by the weekend.
The union representing around 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants issued a 72-hour strike notice Wednesday. If a deal isn't reached or the government doesn't intervene, the flight attendants will begin striking Saturday, August. 16.
In response to the strike notice, the airline issued a lockout notice.
