ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A suspect is in custody after he allegedly led police on a pursuit early Thursday morning, Aug. 14.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) identified the suspect as Eric Dewayne Coleman, 38.

Officials said Coleman drove at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, committed traffic violations, and entered residential areas before crashing into a telephone pole.

He nearly hit two LSP units and then fled on foot before quickly being taken into custody with help from Baton Rouge police, according to officials.

The pursuit started just after 4 a.m. A trooper was reportedly trying to conduct a traffic stop on I-10 West in Ascension Parish when the driver fled.
