Washington is cracking down on invasive plants, adding English ivy to a quarantine list, and funding tea research to grow the state’s specialty crops.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture has added 19 species to the Noxious Weed Seed and Plant Quarantine, WAC 16-752, including all cultivars of English ivy (Hedera helix), according to a release. The move follows petitions from the public and stakeholders and a survey assessing the impact on small businesses if English ivy or other species could no longer be sold. Survey results, public comments and two years of outreach are available on WSDA’s rulemaking page.
