DEXTER, Maine — Police arrested a man from Dexter following an investigation into his injured 7-month-old infant child.

Dexter police got a report of suspected abuse of the infant Aug. 7, according to a press release from the Department of Public Safety. The baby was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Dexter police requested the assistance of Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North to lead the investigation. State police and Dexter police also worked with the Department of Health and Human Services during the investigation.

On Wednesday, the baby's father was arrested after a warrant was issued, officials said. Police charged 23-year-old Kolby Drake of Dexter with aggravated assault, assault, and domestic violence assault.

Drake was brought to the Penobscot County Jail
