MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced a temporary pause of Act 452 and urged the City of Monroe mayor and city council to work together to confirm a fire chief candidate.

Act 452 went into effect on August 1 and gives the governor authority to appoint pre-approved people to local offices if a vacancy is not filled within one year.

Landry said Act 452 is paused for 30 days, and he expects Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis and the city council to “engage in open and constructive dialogue” to appoint a candidate for fire chief.

“Please consider this a formal invitation to engage in concerted action for the betterment of your community,” Landry wrote in a letter to Ellis.
