The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) announced this morning that Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks passed away Wednesday night from the injuries he sustained while performing a traffic stop on August 10, in Orangeburg County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Ricks was conducting a traffic stop on I-26 when he was stuck by a box truck while walking back to his patrol car. Ricks was transported to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston where he was diagnosed with extremely severe injuries.

The driver of the truck, Anthony Aydlette of Hanahan, S.C., was arrested and charged with driving under suspension.
