SLIDELL, La. — A 6-year-old boy died Wednesday evening after he was hit by an SUV outside a home near Slidell and the driver kept going, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to Northshore Lane just before 6 p.m. Investigators say the child had been riding a scooter in his driveway when he was struck. The child's mother drove him to a local hospital, where he later died.

A description of the vehicle — a gray 2022 Chevrolet Suburban — was broadcast to patrol units. Later that evening, deputies spotted the SUV on East Gause Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Cody Beaudette, 35, was taken into custody.

Beaudette was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the following counts, according to STPSO:
