A historic Black church is suing the Hudson Valley Proud Boys chapter over their continuing use of the "Proud Boys" name.

That church, Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal, in Washington, D.C., was awarded the rights after suing Proud Boys International over the far-right extremist group's assault on the church property in 2020.

The church was founded in 1872 and hosted the funerals of Frederick Douglass and Rosa Parks, among others.

According to the lawsuit, on Dec. 12, 2020, a group of people associated with the Proud Boys attacked the church, destroyed its "Black Lives Matter" sign and celebrated the destructive acts on social media.

The church sued PBI for trespass, theft and destruction of property.
