CHARLESTON, S.C. — The South Carolina Democratic Party is calling on Mullins McLeod, the only Democrat in the 2026 gubernatorial race so far, to drop out after video of his May arrest has surfaced.

WCNC Charlotte obtained the dash cam footage from the May 2025 incident in Charleston through a Freedom of Information Act Request . In it, McLeod is shown rambling, screaming, using slurs and threatening his political opponents.

Initially, McLeod refuses to identify himself to law enforcement, instead referring to himself as "Superman" and "God."

Eventually, he does identify himself and references his then-future campaign for governor. That's when the insults turn on his future opponents, including current SC Attorney General Alan Wilson.
