The long-held tradition of throwing tortillas onto the field in Jones AT&T Stadium may be coming to an end for Texas Tech football fans.
Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports reported Thursday that Big 12 Conference athletic directors voted 15-1 "to solidify an existing game management policy related to the throwing of items onto the playing surface," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Dellenger added that teams will receive a warning for the first two violations, while three or more instances could result in 15-yard penalties.
Dellenger noted how this specifically targets Texas Tech in a follow-up post.
"The move most impacts Texas Tech," Dellenger wrote , "whose fans hold a tradition of tossing tortillas onto the field, most notably during opening kickoff."
