As a lifelong South Baltimore resident, I am deeply frustrated by what we have been dealing with this week (“ BGE blackouts put spotlight on Maryland’s fragile power grid as summer demand rises ,” Aug. 11)

The electricity outages caused by BGE’s failing infrastructure, combined with our already too-high energy bills, should have everyone in this city worried about where we are headed. We keep hearing from reporters that Maryland does not produce enough electricity and lacks the infrastructure to meet growing demand. What I have not seen covered is that while we face this shortage, my own senator, Senate President Bill Ferguson, pushed through a policy that could harm one of our most reliable sources of power and set us up for an even worse outlook.
