HOPEWELL, NY — Ontario County sheriff's deputies have identified the person killed Aug. 13 in a single-car crash in Hopewell, Ontario County.

The cause of the crash that resulted in the death of Benjamin Best, 32, of Oswego, Oswego County, remains under investigation.

The collision occurred just after 7 a.m. Aug. 13 on Routes 5 & 20, near Mumby Road, when the vehicle crashed into a tree, deputies said. Best, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A stretch of the road was closed for several hours as deputies investigated at the scene.

Although the cause has not been determined, deputies said it appeared that speed was a contributing factor in the fatal collision.
