NORFOLK, Va. — The man accused of killing the son of a prominent anti-gun violence advocate was found guilty after a high-profile murder trial in Norfolk.

Investigators linked Jalen Garces to the shooting death of 33-year-old Ali Muhammad in the Ocean View neighborhood of Norfolk in 2023.

On Wednesday, a jury found Garces guilty of 2nd-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Court records from the time of Muhammad’s death show multiple witnesses connected Garces’ car, a black Ford Mustang, to the shooting scene. When pulled over for a DUI in Virginia Beach, court records state that evidence from his car corroborates his link to the crime.
