JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced that a former utility cooperative employee has been indicted and charged with theft.

On Thursday, officials said that William Robert Gass used Appalachian Electric Cooperative bank accounts to pay personal debts and expenses while working as the company's accounting director. They said that he used these accounts for personal expenses between October 2022 and September 2023.

The Jefferson County Grand Jury charged Gass with theft over $10,000 and official misconduct, officials said. The TBI also said that he turned himself in on Thursday, and he was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
