CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Days after a Morgantown lawyer got hit with a $100 fine for showing up 85 minutes late to a Harrison County court hearing, a different Harrison circuit judge levied a $500 fine on a Marion County lawyer for not showing up for a status conference in a separate criminal case.

Judge Joseph F. Shaffer Jr. verbally issued the contempt sanction against Fairmont's John Funkhouser for not making a noon status conference with his client.

The judge had his bailiff check the courthouse before ruling. The court also noted that the state's attorney, Andrea Roberts, was on time for the hearing.

Funkhouser will have 10 days to pay the fine. If he doesn't, Shaffer will set another hearing to decide on further action.
