LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Joesef Barraza, the 28-year-old man convicted in the murder and rape of 23-year-old Carly Schaaf — along with the rapes of two other women — was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday.

Judge Lori Maret sentenced Barraza to life imprisonment, along with 120-150 years, after being convicted of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree sexual assault. His sentence comes without the possibility of parole. He was given zero days credit for time served.

A jury found Barraza guilty of Schaaf’s murder and rape on June 23.

Prosecutors successfully argued that Schaaf went to Barraza’s home on May 17, 2021, where he drugged and sexually assaulted her.
