BANNER COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) - The 46-acre grass fire in Banner County is 95% contained as of Wednesday evening.

Banner County Volunteer Fire and Rescue said a lightning strike sparked the fire Sunday evening in the eastern part of the county.

Over a dozen Nebraska agencies responded to the fire as it grew in size and were called off Wednesday after making significant progress in containing it.

The landowner will monitor it for the next few days with Banner County firefighters checking on it as needed.

Agencies from Banner County, Lyman, Scottsbluff, Gering, Bridgeport, Minatare/Melbeta, Sidney, Potter, McGrew and Bayard responded to the fire. Region 22 Emergency Management and the SEAT plane stationed in Chadron also assisted.
