An elderly Ingleside woman was critically injured when she was hit by a car as she apparently walked in the road, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman has memory issues and may have wandered off from a caretaker, police said.

The woman was struck at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday on Big Hollow Road near the Leonard Avenue intersection in Ingleside.

A 41-year-old Wood Dale resident was driving east on Big Hollow when she struck the elderly woman, who appeared to be walking in the road, police said. The Wood Dale woman apparently swerved in an attempt to miss the pedestrian, police said.

The elderly woman was brought to the hospital in critical condition, police said. She may have left her home without her caretaker’s knowledge, police said.
