A crash that killed six people about 20 minutes outside of Bay City included members of the Amish community headed to a funeral, officials say.
Thirteen people – 10 in a van and three in a pickup truck – were involved in the crash reported about 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the intersection of Vassar and Fairgrove roads in Gilford Township, according to the Tuscola County Sheriff's Office.
A paid driver was taking adult members of the Amish community in a van to a funeral gathering in Clare, Tuscola County Undersheriff Robert Baxter told the Free Press.
Based on initial investigation, officials believe a pickup truck with three adults inside failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the van.
