LOS ANGELES — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday that Californians will vote on new congressional maps in November for the state that would prioritize Democrats and offset similar Republican efforts in Texas .

The Democratic governor of the country’s most populous state said he is asking voters for their consent to do midterm redistricting in 2026, 2028 and 2030 through a ballot measure in a Nov. 4 special election.
