RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Texas’ high-profile fight over redrawing voting districts is spreading across the country, including North Carolina.

North Carolina Democrats say gerrymandering is putting a finger on the scales of democracy, and they want to change state law around redistricting maps.

Democratic Senators introduced a bill called the Fair Maps Act this session that would create an independent, bipartisan group tasked with redistricting and drawing maps. But with no Republican support, the bill stalled immediately. There’s a nearly identical bill in the House that also stalled.

Democrats in North Carolina say for them, debates over gerrymandering aren’t new.
