The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has confirmed that agents are investigating a former rescue squad chief in the Upstate.

On Thursday, the Walhalla Rescue Squad announced the investigation, but did not give a reason for the investigation or say what kind of investigation is underway.

The rescue squad said the following:

"We want to be clear, no current member, officer, or volunteer of the Walhalla Rescue Squad is accused of, or suspected of, any wrongdoing. Our current membership is committed to integrity and is cooperating fully to assist law enforcement in their work. Our mission to serve the citizens of Oconee County continues without interruption, and we remain dedicated to transparency and public trust."
