Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser left the district as law enforcement activity surged following the federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department and mobilization of the National Guard.
Bowser traveled to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, according to several reports , though the mayor’s office did not confirm her whereabouts to the Washington Examiner .

“The mayor has a family commitment and had to pick up her daughter. She will return to the district tomorrow,” the mayor’s office said in a statement to the Washington Examiner on T
