PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- When R.I. State Police last week arrested Aaron Cabreja, troopers said they found fentanyl and crack cocaine inside a home where he was living that's licensed as a day care.
Police said Cabreja was living in the second floor of the Cranston day care, called Promenade Kids, that's located inside a women's home, which under state regulations means Cabreja should undergo a background check as a resident of the home.
R.I. Department of Human Services spokesperson James Beardsworth declined to comment on whether Cabreja was vetted, or if they agreed that he should have gone through a background check, citing the "active investigation."
But if a full check had been done, it would have showed Cabreja has a lengthy criminal history.
